March 6th - Bloomin’ Crazy, April 3rd – Earth Fest, May 1st – California Celebration Our First Saturday series takes place on the first Saturday in March, April and May. Each day features educational and interactive activities for kids and families including crafts for children, ethnic and cultural performances and animals of course!

Recycle Rummage Sale April 3 - Saturday November, Date TBD 10 am – 4 pm |

The sale includes books, cds and videos, t-shirts, toys, stuffed animals, collectibles, animals artwork, jewelry, housewares and other unique items donated by the Zoo’s membership. Proceeds benefit the Sacramento Zoological Society Conservation Committee to support wildlife education and conservation both locally and worldwide. As more than recreational facilities, zoos have extended goals: to preserve endangered species and habitats and to educate the visitors on these important issues. The committee cooperates with a worldwide network of conservation organizations, researchers, educators and students.

For 30 years, the ZooZoom has been a favorite of area runners, walkers, and their families. The course winds through scenic William Land Park along flat, tree-lined streets. The morning includes 5K and 10K as well as a 1 mile and ½ mile children’s fun run. After the run, participants and their families enjoy a free day at the Zoo.

The mission of "Dreamnight at the Zoo" is one annual and cost-free evening out in the Zoo, on the first Friday of June, for chronically ill and disabled children and their family members. These very special guests do not often have opportunities to visit our zoos because they come from children's hospitals or institutions for disabled children.

For one evening, Sacramento’s dining scene converges on the beautiful grounds of the Sacramento Zoo. Guests enjoy mouth-watering specialties offered by the area’s finest restaurants and experience the richness and diversity of wines from Northern California. On this special evening the stars of the Zoo (our animals) share the spotlight with Sacramento’s most innovative restaurateurs, wineries and breweries; creating a truly unforgettable event. To add to the festivities, an assortment of live musicians are located throughout the Zoo. Plus, guests may indulge in one-of-a-kind items at three separate silent auctions.

Have a brain-freezing good time as families enjoy all-you-can-eat Baskin Robbins ice cream and all-you-can-drink Coca-Cola beverages at the annual Ice Cream Safari at the Sacramento Zoo. Stroll the Zoo, enjoy live entertainment and face painting. Proceeds from this event benefit the Sacramento Zoological Society education programs.

The evening starts with special escorted behind-the-scenes animal tours, a silent auction filled with one-of-a-kind art, specialty wines and unique gifts, and hosted libations from two themed bars. Guests then enjoy a gourmet dinner, entertainment and spirited live auction hosted by KOVR 13’s Dave Bender.

Don’t miss out on a spooky good time as the Sacramento Zoo transforms into a frighteningly friendly place to be. Kids safely trick-or-treat inside the Zoo, enjoying pumpkin bowling, eerie touchy-feely boxes, a wheel-of-treats, haunted house, costume parade, magic show and the Zoo’s Boo Train. Trick-or-treat bags are given to each child.

The animals receive one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, from wrapped boxes and decorated trees to treat-filled stockings and acacia wreaths. Families enjoy a free admission day, and of course watching the animals enjoy their holiday gifts! Zoo visitors are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Marines, on-site collecting for Toys for Tots, and receive free child’s admission ticket to the Sacramento Zoo to use at their convenience.
