REGISTRAR - Part time, Class I: 32 hours per week Works under the direct supervision of the Zoo Curator. Provide relief supervision to Animal Care staff, serving as Zoo Supervisor as assigned.
Examples of Duties:
- Coordinate all aspects of animal transfers.
- Oversee maintenance of all animal records, including use of ISIS, ARKS, and ZIMS databases.
- Initiate appropriate permits, loan agreements, and contracts for animal transactions.
- Maintain State and Federal permits and licenses.
- Update and maintain all necessary records on animal loans.
- Maintain detailed inventories and statistics as necessary to meet AZA, USDA standards.
- Verify, track, manage, and/or disperse all animal biofacts.
- Correspond with AZA Conservation Programs (TAG, SSP, PMP).
- Develop, review, maintain, and implement safety policies and procedures.
- Track and manage all facility blueprints, plans.
- Coordinate Environmental Enrichment program, maintaining all associated records.
- Procure all food items, forage, uniforms, and supplies for Animal Care Department.
- Track line items on annual budget for Animal Care Department.
- Assist Director of Finance in coordination of contracts involving outside services for Animal Care Department.
- Conduct tours and demonstrations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work closely with diverse departments
- Ability to participate as a member of Zoo’s Armed Response Team
- Interest in, and knowledge of, AZA conservation programs
- Meticulous management and organizational skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a life sciences field required; experience in animal care preferred
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a professional zoological setting
- Working knowledge of animal health, physiology, and population management
- Experience with zoological records, protocols, and record keeping systems (ZIMS, ISIS, MedARKS, SPARKS, etc.)
- Familiarity with supervisory principals, practices and method.
